Truly one of the finest treks offered in Hindukush Range of Pakistan exploring an area visited by very few Tourists as it has recently been opened for foreigners. Passing through the beautiful and scenic mountain villages in Chitral valley.

The locals call this the roof of the world as it serves the beautiful landscape, large herds of Yaks, Goats and sheep can be seen grazing across the lush and green meadows of this high plateau. From here trek down to the Ishkoman valley or ascend to the path leading to Chilinji Pass 5290 meters and enter Chupurson valley in upper Hunza. The trek ends at , Yarkhun lasht to Gupis via Shandur Pass and from here you drive by jeeps to Karakoram Highway and proceed to Hunza and Gilgit.

What to Expect

Our plan is to explore Broghil valley up to Karomber lake and then exit via Darkot pass (aka Darkut) into Yasin valley. So now we had to start our trekking from Darkot village to cross Darkot pass into Broghil valley.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive islamabad

Arrive in Islamabad. A representative of Karakorum Explorers will meet you outside the customs and immigration area at the airport. This representative will answer questions, brief you on the immediate arrangements, and escort you to the hotel in Islamabad.

Day 2Drive to Chilas

Morning drive to Chilas, passing through the enchanting valleys of Mansehra and Indus Kohistan along the mighty Indus river enroute visit the ancient rock carvings at Shatial and Chilas.(12 hours)

Day 3Drive to Gilgit

Drive to Gilgit from chilas on Karakoram highway, the Journey is about 3 to 4 hours and (135 km) long the Journey will continue through the small villages like gunar farm,thalachi,jaglot and so many other small villages and will reach Gilgit. we take you to the hotel after refreshing yourself you can go to visit local bazaar and have some shopping or can go to see the kargah Buddha 190 km.

Day 4Drive to Darkot

We departed early morning from Gilgit to Darkot village via a Hiace. From Gupis the vehicle took the right turn to cross a rider over Ghizer river to enter into Yasin valley. We will make a short stop at Lalak Jan Shaheed Maqbara and perform fatiha and will meet his brother if possible.through going the yasin valley we will see so many kinds of fruits especially apricots, are very famous fruit here..the journey from Gilgit to darkut is about 5 and a half an hours drive and the distance is almost 190 km. After a very Beautiful journey Finally we reached Darkut village yet again just before the sunset.

Day 5Darkot village to Darkot pass base camp Khambakh 3800 m (2- 4 hours, 8 km)

2nd highest in Pakistan Karambar Lake starting trek from Darkot (Darkut) valley, you can view the highest peak from Darkot village Ghamubar Zom (Ghamubar I) peak 6518 m in the south in Ghamubar Glacier (Ghamu Bar Glacier) Hindu kush range .
Darkot valley is a tourist attraction in the valley two lakes Ghamober Lake and Khalthir Lake.
Trek from village is little easy but after some hours trek leads up to base camp is toughest. On the way Rawat valley last settlement in Darkot valley to base camp view is amazing green pasture surrounded the valley and towering snow capped mountain around you. Continue hike to reach base camp Khambakh 3800 m of Darkot base.

Day 6Darkot base camp to Darkot Pass (4,703 m) descending to Chikar-Chitral valley (3700 m)

From base camp hike up to final reach Darkot Pass (Darkut) 4,703 m. People’s most of the year travelling from Darkut pass over Darkut glacier to reach Chikaar(Chikar) Chitral valley. it connects Yasin valley Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral valley Khyber Pakhtunkhwa later route to Afghanistan from Broghil pass. start descending to Darkot glacier to Chikaar village 3700 m from glacier in the NorthWest side view of Koyo Zom 6872 m highest peak on border of Chitral valley and Ghizer Gilgit Baltistan. continue trails to reach small settlement in Chikaar village over YarKhun River. In the South of Chikaar village Chatibo Glacier and Peaches Glacier feeds up YarKhun River.

Day 7Chikaar to Lashkargaz (3000 m) via Gharel Chitral valley

After Chikar village we start trail to Broghil valley first crossing Chilmarabad which is a greenish area in Broghil valley and reach Ishkarwaz check post everyone must register. you can come here on jeep from Chitral to Mastuj reach Ishkarwaz. after few hours beautiful Garhil few households crossing Garhil (Gharel) to Lashkargaz (or Lashkargah Goz) is a plan greenish area around high mountain huge glacier to the West Badakhshan Afghanistan border and in the East Gilgit Baltistan. trek along with YarKhun River reach Lashkargaz Chitral valley.

Day 8Lashkargaz (3000 m) to Lale Rabat (lalay Rabat) via Showrsheer

Stay in Lashkargaz see beautiful lake in Lashkargaz, then start trek to Lale Rabat . after some hours reach a point where Zindi Kharam Glacier, Chikar Glacier and mighty longest Chiantar Glacier meeting point of tributary Yarkhun River. We turn to lalay Rabat valley along with Rabat bar stream reach small huts in summer settlement of locals Broghil valley in Rabat 4000 m.

Day 9Lale Rabat (4000 m) to Karomber lake (4,304 m)

To day we trek to Karambar Lake, a very beautiful and huge lake surrounded by the high snow-covered peaks and green meadows with crystal clear streams flowing down to the lake. The different kinds of flowers and migratory birds around this beautiful lake makes an unforgettable experience of life. The trek started to high up narrow valley towards Karambar (Karomber) pass greenery and beautiful landscape continue journey to Karomber lake is further half an hour away from the pass. Lale Rabat after few walk reach Margach then crossing margach see Zoe Glacier and Karambar glacier continue hike up to the Pass.
while crossing Karomber pass there is some few lake near one lake in the south near Karomber Glacier called Rabat lake and the other on mini lake near Karomber lake trek ,finally see the first look of magical 2nd highest in Pakistan karomber lake. here are some camping sites maintained along the lake. Porters normally stay in open sky small huts built above the lake. stay whole day in camp and photography around lake.

Day 10 Karomber lake to Lashkargaz

A very scenic and interesting walk on the high plateaus of wakhan corridor, the famous Broghil pass and is the home of Gujar nomads who came from Central Asia during the Summer with their flocks of Livestock here in high grazing pastures.

Day 11Lashkargaz to Kashmanja

Today is our Last day of our trekking, follows the summer settlements of the lonely shepherd huts pony and green meadows along the Yarkhun River.

Day 12Kashmanja to Yarkhun Lasht

Drive by four-wheel jeep through the beautiful and scenic mountain villages under the shadow of the snow-covered peaks, lush green meadows along the Chitral River, and a wonderful drive on four-wheel jeeps to this beautiful valley.

Day 13Yarkhun lasht to Gupis via Shandur Pass

Drive over Shandur pass and through Phander lake to Gupis. After Laspur village the zigzag jeep track climbs up the Shandur pass (3,700m), so we leave the jeeps and walk over the pass to the highest polo ground in the world. This is
where every year a grand festival of polo takes place where teams from all of North Pakistan meet together to decide the champion of the year. The festival is attended by many enthusiasts from every village, who camp here for days to see their team progress towards the glory. We continue driving to Gupis.
As we drive, we bid farewell to Hindukush range. Wild landscape meets us during the drive as this is visited by much less people and is covered with snow covered during the winters so only nomads move with their flock of goats, searching the higher slopes for green pastures.
Rest Day

Day 14Drive to Gilgit

Today we will drive towards Gilgit the administrative capital of Northern Areas of Pakistan. Arrive Gilgit and transfer to hotel for refresh. After lunch we drive out from Gilgit to re-enter the town from the historic route, crossing a suspension bridge over the river. At Kargah to visit the rock-carved Buddha from 7th century AD. In ancient times the Kargah valley used to be the traveling route of the Buddhist monks, to go to Taxila. Stroll down the colorful Bazaars of Gilgit. Overnight in hotel.

Day 15Drive to Besham

Now we are on the Karakoram Highway, on the bank of Indus river. We enter the narrow rocky gorge of Indus. The Highway was a joint venture between Pakistan and Chinese army engineers and it took 20 years & 850 lives to complete this 8th wonder of the world. After three hours drive we will stop in Jaglot a unique place of its kind in the world. Here the world’s three highest mountain ranges Himalayas, Karakoram and Hindukush are meeting it is also the meeting point of Indus river with Gilgit river. We also have fascinating views of Nanga Parbat (8,125 M) from here. After lunch break in Chilas we will continue our drive to Besham. By evening we will arrive Besham.

Day 16Drive to Islamabad

Drive on the greener part of KKH to Islamabad. We may stop at Taxila, the archaeological site of Gandhara Buddhist civilization dating from 500 BC to 500 AD era. Transfer to hotel for overnight.

Day 17Departure

Transfer to airport for international departure flight.
